CGA and AACTA Honor Achievements in Casting at Annual Awards Ceremonies

Casting Networks

In late November and early December, Casting Networks® was delighted to take part in the 9th Annual AACTA Awards Industry Luncheon and the Casting Guild of Australia’s 5th annual CGA Awards.

The CGA awards, first created in 2015, took place November 29th in Melbourne, Australia to honor and celebrate casting directors and their contributions to the entertainment sector, specifically focusing on projects related to film, television, advertising, theatre, and digital media. Casting Networks is proud to be a recurring sponsor of the CGA Awards while also presenting the Best Casting honor at the AACTA Awards, which was first introduced in 2018 by the CGA with the support of Casting Networks

The Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards are held annually in Sydney to recognize, encourage, promote, and celebrate film and television excellence in Australia. The AACTA Awards ceremony, known as the Australian Oscars, has honored outstanding achievements in film for over 60 years. The award for Best Casting reinforces the importance of honoring the work of Australian casting directors, and we are overjoyed to sponsor this award for the second year in a row. This year’s Best Casting nominees included Ann Fay, Leigh Pickford, and Trishaan Sarkar for “Hotel Mumbai,” Des Hamilton and Francine Maisler for “The King,” Anousha Zarkesh for Total Control, and Nikki Barrett who took home the Best Casting award for her work on “The Nightingale.”

Some of the winners from the CGA awards included casting director Kirsty McGregor, who procured three awards total, one for Best Casting in a TV Comedy for season two of “Mr Inbetween” and two awards alongside her colleague Gemma Brown,  Achievement in Casting and Best Casting in a Feature Film. Casting director Annie Murtagh-Monks was awarded Best Casting in a TV Drama for her work in season one of “The Heights,” with Best Casting in a TV Miniseries & Telemovie going to Angela Heesom for “The Hunting.”

Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners, and we look forward to being a part of these exciting events next year.
